A few days ago, a package arrived here in the mail from the Netherlands. It contained the September issue of a magazine titled Groei & Bloei, which I think translates to growing and blooming. They had contacted me earlier in the summer to see if I would sell them the rights to a picture I took of my giant red mustard (Brassica juncea var. rugosa), to which I quickly said "natuurlijk"! They wanted to use it on the cover of a seed packet they are giving away in this month's issue. I guess you can now call me an international man of mustard.
Shameless self promotion indeed...
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
That is so cool!!:) The benefits of blogging can and do pay:)
ReplyDeleteInternational Man of Mustard makes you I-MOM for short! Well, it IS a smashing photo. No wonder they wanted to buy the rights. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteInternational man of mustard, wow, and to think that I knew you when....
ReplyDeleteLes,
ReplyDeleteVery cool and it is an awesome photo! Never thought of shooting mustard plants in this way.
Third try on the stupid word verification.....
Did you sell the rights or just license the image? Anyway, I know it's not going to make you rich, but it is nice to be noticed, isn't it? Fifth try for comment moderation, and I was sure I had gotten it right on the second and third try.
ReplyDeleteYour talents never fail to amaze me Les. You are now an international star (hope the paparazzi don't find you at NBG.)
ReplyDeleteSo if someone showed up at your door with a seed packet would you autograph it?
ReplyDeleteVery flattering for you, and a testament to the wonder of the internet. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteTillykke !
ReplyDeleteGoogle translate tells me that's how you say "Congratulations" Les. I hope
it's accurate and I haven't just sworn at you or something nasty like that.
Congratulations and wonderful photo! Would like to request that you add automatic button to Twitter, facebook, and Pinterest in order to share your wonderful blog and photos with others. Thanks so much!

I always knew your photographs would get you into trouble some day...

Quite beautiful and a feather in your cap. I have been contacted quite a few times for use of my photos but no one wants to pay.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Love those purple mustard colors...
ReplyDeleteWell earned. I knew you when.
ReplyDeleteThat's great and very well deserved. I sort of like the idea that you didn't have to enter a contest. Somebody just discovered that you had made a marvelous photograph. Kind of inspiring for bloggers putting photos on the web all over the world... :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Les, this magazine is one of the most leading magazines here in The Netherlands regarding gardening. I actually had it in my hands some weeks ago to give it as a present to a neighbor. Your photo is great, what an honor for you to appear on the front page!
ReplyDeleteBeing local, I've received this issue weeks and weeks ago. And ss much as I'm not into seeds (somehow never had any success with any Groei&Bloei free samples!) - I LOVED to read about your personal break through into real magazines world :) And it's a very well-reputed magazine, btw, to have your garden photo published. So, congratulations, international Mustard Man!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Les! Thanks for sharing your good news with us. ... and your sense of humor.
ReplyDelete"International Man of Mustard" - love it! Great photo too.
