I submitted the above photograph to the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association (VNLA)Newsletter. This is the same organizations that operates the the state Certified Horticulturist program as well as promoting and championing state wide green industry issues. They have a photo contest for each issue of the newsletter and I won $50 with my picture of Ranunculus 'Brazen Hussy' which I used in previous post from February. I haven't quit my day job, but I am anxiously waiting by the phone for a call from Garden Design or Fine Gardening.

Congratulations, Les! It is a great photo, and just one of many you've posted.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to swell your head:-)
ReplyDeleteImpressive as well as informative picture. Well done you!
I was just reading an article on this R.ficaria (I am coincidenceprone)and I wonder if you knew that it was found in Christopher Lloyd's garden at Great Dixter. His head gardener found it whilst weeding. He said that all plants carrying the name 'Brazen Hussy' should preferably be propagated by division from the original plant, as most seed-raised plants will be alike but not identical.
ReplyDeleteWell, yes...
BTW, talking of brazen hussies, I left an answer to your comment on my page, which you might want to grin at, hopefully.
Congratulations, Les--as others have said, it's a wonderful photo, as all of yours are. I of course think the subject might have helped single this one out, but my Ranunculus is not as dainty (though he has become quite the photo hound)!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiuful photo. The water on the plants makes it look so refreshed. I don't have any of these but I would love too. Pretty color too. I am in zone 8B too or 9 depending which chart I look at. Gulf Coast of MS.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for the encouraging comments.
ReplyDeleteJoco, I did not know the origins of the plant. This was shot at the garden of the retired founders of the company I work for. Since that time they have given me one of theirs. They are quite dormant now and I look forward to seeing it this winter.
Cosmo, how many people to you have to explain the dog's name too?
Les
Congratulations on winning! And well deserved. What a gorgeous photo - I feel like I could touch those drops of water.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your bloom day shots too - what a pretty town you live in. Go ahead and break the rules. I did.
Congratulations! Beautiful photo--It's nice to get a little recognition now and then, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - and what a beautiful image! I need to go and look at your 'city wide' bloom day post now.
ReplyDeleteHi, Les--re my Ranunculus, well, that's his blog-o-nym. His real name is, shall we say, more "common." Congratulations again on the award--well deserved.
ReplyDeleteI can why it won - it is a beautiful photo - congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI meant to say "I can see why it won".
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Awesome! Awesome! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful photo. $50 is certainly a validation of your skill, especially if you did it for fun. I've enjoyed visiting your blog for the first time.
